Real Life Stories

Business and residents are leaving California in record numbers at a record pace. Higher taxes have never produced more income for any state. Good jobs with good pay are the only things that put money into the economy.
-Leigh Skinner, California Taxpayer

Small businesses like mine are already at our breaking point with the high cost of food, gas and benefits. If taxes are raised on our property, we will be forced to cut back on staff or pass our costs on to our customers, or both. Raising property tax is a really bad idea for everyone.
- Gilbert Gonzalez, vice president of TGI Catering, Inc., Anaheim

Residents living in our apartments are feeling the pinch of the economy like everyone else. If we have to raise rents to cover property tax increases, it will place an unfair burden on them and could drive them out of their homes.
- Joe Fong, owner of Fong Enterprise, Sacramento

As a small business owner I cannot afford higher taxes of any kind much less higher taxes on my Business property. The combined California taxes take over 50 % of my income. These proposed higher taxes will force me to lay off some employee's and or close my business completely.  Higher taxes will hurt the California economy not help it.
-Bill Pease, President, Custom Kitchen Bath Center, Fremont

California already has the most anti-business tax and regulatory structure in the nation.  Don't send even more jobs to other states by adoption of split roll property tax measures. The out-of-control spending of California's legislature cannot be solved by asking small businesses like mine to bear a still greater burden. There must be an end to increased taxation.
-Gene Scothorn, Owner, Scothorn Consulting Services, Scotts Valley

I own my own accounting practice and I have first-hand knowledge as to how a property tax increase will hurt businesses and destroy jobs. Taxes are high enough and increasing property taxes will only put California small business owners like myself at a further disadvantage.
-Gregory Gandrud, President, Gandrud Financial Services Corp., Carpinteria
